Heading into my teen years, I acquired some top exhibition breeding stock from the local breeders. I raised probably every breed of poultry at one time or another. Getting a drivers license unleashed a new face at the major poultry shows. New breeding stock from other parts of the country was now available to me. In the 1970's Junior Shows didn't exist. My exhibiting was competing against the masters. This experience I believe, got me where I am at today. In the following years, I was breeding and exhibiting a top flock of waterfowl. Mentored by some of the best waterfowl specialists, I gained the knowledge to become a respectful waterfowl Judge. Adulthood came around and at the age of 24, I had dispersed my flock of waterfowl. Moving forward with life without poultry, I would continue to judge, consult, and visit with poultry enthusiast. The end of the 20th Century was nearing. The missing link in my life was not having any poultry. Getting started again isn't always that easy. A lot of sacrifices and new responsibilities were on the horizon. Once the birds started arriving, It was amazing how everything starts to fall in place. My approach to this hobby, second time around, would be to specialize in only a few breeds; the Aylesburys are the Kings and Queens of Royal Oaks. I provide full attention to their well-being. The Rouens and Pekins are also bred and raised at Royal Oaks. I was well known for top exhibition Grey DewLap Toulouse in the 1970's. The Toulouse are once again part of the breeds bred and exhibited. They truly are the majestic of the domestic goose family. James Konecny has a waterfowl specialty license from the APA and ABA. Judging experiences throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Judging by the standard and elaborated on my experience. A small comment can usually be found on your coop tags. Judging is enjoyed as much as exhibiting. I always welcome conversation after the judging is completed. Great fellowship and showmanship. Everyone Enjoy! |
